The pelvic floor is a muscle, and like any other, sometimes needs a bit of extra attention to keep it working optimally. It’s no longer acceptable to brush our continence issues under the carpet, or discreetly accept that post-50 we all wear pads!
And it’s not just women who have problems with their pelvic floors! Men also commonly have issues which can be helped by a visit to a specialist physiotherapist who will assess and advise.
We provide private, confidential 1:1 physiotherapy consultations with our specialist Chartered Physiotherapist, Sarah Watkins, who is extremely experienced and very sensitive to the nature of individual problems.
We also run occasional group Women’s Health Pilates classes, aiming to be both informative and fun. These classes give valuable up-to-date information to women of all ages about maintaining pelvic floor and bone health and high-light things many women are doing that are not helpful. The classes encourage open discussion in a supportive environment and include useful exercises.
Viney Hall has recently invested in the Kegel range of equipment, available on short-term trial to our clients following assessment. These devices use neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to stimulate your pelvic floor muscles to contract, giving helpful feedback if you’re not sure you are exercising correctly, or an extra boost to get you started if there is significant pelvic floor weakness, and when exercise just isn’t enough. They can also be used with a prolapse.
If you would like to come to our next Women’s Health class, please get in touch so we can let you know when the next one is. And of course, a 1:1 assessment is the most useful to address your individual problems.
